Conspiracy Theories

Thanks to the mistrust of people with their governments, there has been a wealth of conspiracy theories running around.

As a young man, they were as interesting as the supposed effects of the zodiac or the full moon, but things tend to taper off with age, at least for most people.

Having watched the movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon, I could not help but dig through a few past conspiracy theories.

Moon Landing

I’m sure you’ve heard conspiracy theorists talking about this for the longest time. They claim that the moon landing of the United States in 1969 was faked.

They point out that the lights and reflections seen in pictures are incorrect if the source of light was the sun. Based on the light angles and reflections, the moon landing was most likely something staged in a movie set.

The reason for staging such an elaborate ruse was to beat the Russians in a game of pride. By landing a man on the moon, the United States became the first, and so far only country, to claim something outside of the earth.

It is real of fake, I can’t tell. What I can say it that if it was a hoax, it was one very elaborate one because to this very day, the astronauts who took that historical flight still claim it was real.

And if they aren’t changing their stories after over fifty years, I think that the moon landing is real.

Kennedy Assassination

One of the most widespread conspiracy theories involves the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.

The theorists claim that Kennedy death was not the cause of a single individual. Based on the injuries he sustained, they claim that no single gunman could inflict that kind of damage.

Instead, he was assassinated by several gunmen on the orders of a group. And the one comes to mind for most people is the mob.

One theory states that the mafia found Kennedy to be such a threat to them that they put out a contract for him.

Plausible? Perhaps, but then I wasn’t born in the time of Kennedy so I can’t really appreciate this theory.

However, my parents have considered it because they grew up then and have a better understanding of the culture during Kennedy’s time.

But after watching the different movies on it and looking at stuff over the internet, I can’t help but hold a little bit of doubt. It does seem a bit unlikely that one man can take down the most powerful man in the world so easily.

Princess Diana Accident

This is one of the more recent conspiracy theories due to the circumstances surrounding her death.

Theorists believe that Princess Diana was assassinated because she had become an embarrassment to the British monarchy.

When she came from a date with a friend, the car she was riding smashed in to a post in the underpass it was going through. This killed Princess Diana and her friend, who was also in the car.

Theorists state that a motorcycle riding team temporarily blinded the driver with a high capacity strobe light, causing him to crash the vehicle. And since he was travelling at a fast speed, the ensuing crash was enough to cause the deaths of the passengers.

I will admit, among the three, this sounded the most plausible. But then after years of reading about it and the opening and re-opening the case, can’t say for sure that it was an accident due to drunk driving.

Perhaps part of me wants to believe that someone needed to get rid of Princess Diana because she was more popular that all the other royals put together.
