Sizzling Summer Fashion

The Mini! It’s back!

No, not the car, the skirt! And it’s making this summer sizzle!

While the past few years had girls wearing the shortest shorts or teeniest bikinis, they can only be seen in malls or beaches. This summer, even office girls are getting in on the action by showing more leg.

Just this morning, I was greeted by the next door twins as they stepped out to go to the office in the shortest skirts I’ve seen for the summer. If I didn’t have an appointment with a client in the opposite direction, I would have accepted their generous offer to ride with them to work.

And though I may have missed my chance to start the day on the right foot, all was not lost.

After walking for a few minutes in this burning sun, I was rewarded with a bevy of girls in miniskirts in the bus station. They were the usual girls I see as I go to work and we would politely smile at each other as we waited for our ride, but with their new attire, I could not help but strike up a conversation with a couple of them.

It turns out that they live a couple of blocks away from me and also work in Makati. They were headed the opposite way today for their last day of training. I asked them if they would be amenable to car pooling to save money and time and that got them excited.

I don’t blame them. I was quite excited myself as I would be able to avoid all the heat, pollution, and traffic the route our bus takes.

I also kidded them that their attire probably made it difficult to commute through public transportation, for obvious reasons, to which they agreed.

After finally getting to work, I was again pleasantly surprised to see many of the girls in my client’s office sporting shorter skirts. It was so bad that I had a bit trouble reviewing my presentation.

And like the girls at the stop, I find it really amazing that I see some of these girls in a totally different light with just a slight change in clothing. Once upon a time, I saw them as boring librarians, now they appear to be more their age.

It’s gotten so bad that my neck’s beginning to ache. I’m afraid I may have to see a chiropractor if I don’t get myself under control in the next few days.

But seriously, one of the reasons I am enjoying myself is that the miniskirt has banished sloppy clothing. Gone are the ill-fitting jeans, sloppy pants, and wrinkled skirts. Also absent are flip-flops and rubber shoes that girls have taken to in droves. It made them look like… guys. Yech.

Just today, I have seen quite a few smartly dressed girls in strappy or close-toes shoes. They now look perfectly professional while recovering the femininity that previous clothing trends wiped away.

This Means War

Well, I certainly am not going to let these girls have all the fun. Thanks to them, I will be upgrading my wardrobe. It doesn’t make sense for all these girls to look their best, while guys like me get left behind.

Heck, they’ve put so much effort in looking good this season; I do not want to be the accessory that destroys their whole ensemble.

Come payday, I’ll be getting myself a new pair of shoes and matching belt. If I still have cash left over, I’m going to buy a couple of new long and short-sleeved polo shirts. Next payday, it’ll be trousers in grey, blue, and black. And by the end of next month, I’ll round it off with a few pairs of socks to stitch everything together.

Ah yes, nothing like an all-out fashion war to keep everything hot. Yup, this summer’s definitely going to sizzle alright.
